Inpatient Admission Guidelines for Persons with Psychiatric Disorders
SJRC does provide psychiatric monitoring. However, in order to provide the best treatment to our clients,
we must refer persons with certain psychiatric disorders to psychiatric facilities or to dual-diagnosis facilities.
Because we cannot evaluate clients directly prior to admission to SJRC, we must rely on written historical information and
telephone interviews with prospective clients and referring agencies.
We may not be able to admit persons with a known history of any of the following:
recurrent psychiatric hospitalizations;
recent suicide attempt;
psychotic disorders;
severe mood disorders;
extreme personality disorders;
cognitive impairment (mental retardation or dementia);
dissociative disorders;
paraphilias;
currently active eating disorders; or
severe impulse control disorders (i.e., intermittent explosive disorder or pyromania).
SJRC cannot admit clients who are on benzodiazepines.
Should SJRC determine that a person is not appropriate for admission to SJRC, our Admissions Office will make reasonable efforts
to suggest appropriate alternatives. Because of time limitations, our consulting psychiatrist is generally not available to discuss
individual cases by telephone.
